West Ridings Residents Get Their Own ‘Little Library’ Thanks To Locals

4 September 2020

Residents at West Ridings care home can now borrow a bestseller from their own ‘Little Library’.

Residents at West Ridings care home can now borrow a bestseller from their own ‘Little Library’.

The outdoor cupboard-style library was donated by the lovely people at Wakefield Little Free Libraries.

When Clinical Services Manager Lauren Hermann spotted the community Little Free Library on nearby Ledger Lane, she contacted organiser Sue Thomas to enquire about buying one for the home.

However, as luck would have it, Sue and her team were in the process of replacing the Ledger Lane Library, so offered to donate the original box to West Ridings.

They kindly got local artist Laura Lloyd-Anderson to revamp the library with a beautiful bird and flower motif before delivering it to Home Manager Laura Lambert.

The Little Library is now situated under the pergola in the garden where Residents can dip in and borrow a book, or just admire the stunning artwork.

Laura said: “We are so delighted to have our very own Little Library, it’s gorgeous.

“It was incredibly kind of Sue and her team to donate it to us and to give it a stunning revamp before it arrived.

“The Residents love it, and they can’t wait to start using it.”

Wakefield Little Free Libraries is a community initiative to encourage people to read and share their books. The boxes are positioned across the city where readers young and old can borrow or donate books.
