A Day to Remember at the Black Country Living Museum

Residents from Ryland View Care Home recently enjoyed a wonderful day out as a group visited the Black Country Living Museum, bringing back fond memories and creating new ones along the way.

The trip was organised following requests from residents who had expressed a wish to return to the much-loved attraction. With clear blue skies and warm sunshine throughout the day, the outing could not have been better timed, making the experience even more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Residents spent time exploring the museum’s new 1940s–1960s street, taking in the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of a bygone era. The familiar surroundings sparked conversations and reminiscence, with many residents sharing stories from their own lives as they walked through the carefully recreated streets.

A highlight of the day was enjoying traditional fish and chips from Hobbs & Sons, followed by a well-earned refreshment at The Elephant & Castle, where residents relaxed with a classic pint of bitter. These simple pleasures added to the authenticity of the experience and brought smiles all around.

The day was filled with laughter, conversation, and a strong sense of togetherness. Residents commented on how much they had enjoyed the outing, with many describing it as a truly special experience.

For George, who once worked at the Black Country Museum, the visit held particular meaning. Reflecting on the day, he said: “I’ve had the best day — what more could I ask for? Fish and chips, a pint of bitter, and to top it off, the sun was shining.”
