A Festive Season of Connection and Celebration at West Ridings Care Home
12 January 2026
West Ridings Care Home enjoyed a truly heart-warming festive season, filled with music, laughter, and meaningful moments that brought residents, staff, families, and the wider community together. Christmas parties were held across all units, with residents enjoying lively entertainment and delicious food — and the feedback from everyone involved was overwhelmingly positive.
Residents were also supported by the Activities Team to form a small Christmas choir, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The choir travelled around different areas of the home, spreading festive cheer and singing carols to residents and staff alike. One resident shared: “It made me feel like Christmas again — singing together was lovely.”
Some residents were invited to their local school for Christmas lunch, where they enjoyed time with the children and were treated to a wonderful performance of Christmas carols. A staff member said: “Seeing the residents with the children was so special — there were smiles everywhere.”
In the true spirit of giving, the home organised a shoebox collection, ensuring that residents who may not have otherwise received gifts still felt remembered and valued. One resident commented: “It was so kind — I felt very spoiled.”
At the end of December, West Ridings also launched a new initiative called “Stop the Clock,” encouraging staff of all roles to take 5–10 minutes out of their day to sit with residents, have a chat, and reminisce. A team member said: “Those little moments really mean the most.”
The much-loved Church Choir also visited, delighting residents with festive music.
One of the most emotional moments came when a resident who had been bedbound for over 18 months was able to get up and socialise again this Christmas — a moment that brought tears of joy to everyone who witnessed it.
