A Hoot of a Day: Owl Adventures Visit West Ridings Care Home
28 January 2025
Staff and residents at West Ridings Care Home had a truly unforgettable afternoon on Thursday, thanks to an enchanting visit from Owl Adventures, who brought along a fascinating group of owls and birds of prey.
The highlight of the day was the chance to hold, stroke, and interact with these magnificent birds. Residents and staff alike were amazed by the sight of Crunchy, a 6-month-old barn owl, flying gracefully across the lounge — even landing on a few lucky shoulders! Ryan, the expert from Owl Adventures, shared captivating facts about the owls, including their silent flight, which allows them to catch prey undetected, and their incredible hearing, so sharp they can hear a heartbeat.
Everyone had a chance to meet Diego, a calm and friendly 5-year-old owl, who was happy to be stroked and held. They also admired Ranger, a striking 6-month-old eagle owl, and a handsome hawk that rounded out the group. For those unable to visit the lounge, Ryan went the extra mile by bringing the owls to individual bedrooms, ensuring every resident could enjoy this magical experience.
Smiles were abundant throughout the day, with residents, families, and staff sharing in the joy. One resident, Nigel, shared, “It was the best day I’ve had since coming to live at the care home.”
The visit was an enormous success, leaving everyone excited for a future visit from Owl Adventures. For now, the memories of this awe-inspiring day will continue to soar in their hearts.
