A Month of Adventures, Celebrations and Creativity at The Priory Care Home

4 September 2026

Residents at The Priory Care Home enjoyed a busy July filled with armchair travel, birthday celebrations, interactive games and nature-inspired activities.

The month began with an exciting virtual journey to Canada as part of the home’s Armchair Travel programme. Using the home’s Magic Table, residents were given their own boarding passes and stamps before setting off to discover more about Canadian culture and traditions.

During their virtual adventure, residents explored music from past and present, including Celine Dion’s iconic My Heart Will Go On. They also discovered some fascinating facts about the country, including its famous maple syrup and six different time zones, with plenty of conversation about enjoying maple syrup on pancakes!

July also brought two special birthdays to celebrate. On 4 July, resident Jean marked her birthday surrounded by friends at the home, with an extra-special visit from her grandson, who had travelled all the way from Dubai to spend the occasion with her.

Residents gathered to sing Happy Birthday before Jean was presented with a homemade birthday cake prepared by the home’s chef and a special gift from the team.

Then, on 14 July, it was Beryl’s turn to celebrate. Fellow residents joined her for birthday cake, a gift from the home and, of course, another enthusiastic rendition of Happy Birthday.

Throughout the month, residents also made fantastic use of the Magic Table, exploring a variety of interactive games. Neil particularly enjoyed testing his skills with Spot the Difference, while others turned their attention to nature by exploring the Big Butterfly Count.

Using activity resources and printouts, residents learned about butterflies and experimented with different colouring techniques to create their own colourful designs. They also discovered how spending just 15 minutes looking for butterflies can contribute valuable information to scientific research – even when no butterflies are spotted.

From travelling virtually across the Atlantic to celebrating milestones and discovering more about the natural world, July offered plenty of opportunities for residents at The Priory to learn, reminisce, create and, most importantly, enjoy meaningful time together.
