Advinia Colleague Karen Earrye Wins COVID Workplace Champion Award

The Royal Society of the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has named Advinia’s Karen Earrye as a COVID Workplace Champion in recognition of her outstanding work during the pandemic.

Karen, who is Advinia’s Head of Learning and Development, was nominated by colleagues for the accolade but insists she shares it with her team.

RoSPA said they picked Karen because of her “expertise, passion and unwavering commitment to keeping clients, colleagues and communities safe during the COVID pandemic.”

However, Karen says that none of this would be possible without her team, who worked tirelessly alongside her and every single Advinia Colleague who demonstrated compassion and commitment throughout the pandemic.

Karen said: “I’m thrilled to receive such a prestigious honour from RoSPA, but this was a genuine team effort.

“We had to create an entirely new training module to be delivered to over 3,000 colleagues within the first week of COVID taking hold.

This was followed up with a module explaining the specific requirements of donning and doffing PPE in line with new regulatory requirements

“The team worked until 2am over four nights alongside our training partners, Your Hippo, to develop a bespoke online module

“Our most important responsibility was to keep the Residents and Colleagues safe in Advinia Care Homes by teaching them how to manage infection control, use PPE and how to protect everyone in a very challenging situation which was new to everyone.

“It was hard but rewarding work.”

With a background in healthcare and as a specialist in infection control, Karen played a pivotal role in Advinia’s response to the unfolding pandemic.

She and her team mobilised to also produce posters and other visual aids to quickly communicate the new safety measures.

They also went above and beyond the call of duty to work alongside Colleagues on the floor at different Homes when further support was needed or when outbreaks of COVID impacted staffing levels.

Karen said: “I gave my number to anybody across Advinia who wanted to talk about infection control or needed advice and a listening ear.

“I took calls 24/7 because people were fearful and needed reassurance. We also arranged many Zoom calls where we could get together and talk through what was happening.

“I’m so proud of how my team stepped up to do everything they could to help their Colleagues.

“That involved finding very creative and safe ways to deliver essential training throughout the Homes when social distancing was in place, cleaning training rooms and all equipment before and after sessions to ensure Colleague safety and generally going above and beyond their roles.

“I share RoSPA’s COVID Workplace Champion award with every single member of the Advinia team, and I’m very grateful our efforts have been recognised.”
