Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home Helps Fuel “Race Across Gloucestershire” Challenge
28 July 2026
There was a real buzz around Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home as we proudly welcomed participants from the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation’s Race Across Gloucestershire challenge, an incredible community relay event raising awareness and support for the Foundation’s work across the county. The challenge showcased the power of teamwork, determination and community spirit, bringing together people from across Gloucestershire for an inspiring day of fundraising and physical endurance.
As one of the official checkpoints on the route, our team was delighted to play a small part in helping the participants on their journey.
Knowing that the runners and cyclists would need plenty of energy before continuing their challenge, our talented Head Chef and kitchen team were up bright and early preparing delicious bacon sandwiches to give everyone a well-earned boost before setting off on the next leg of the race.
But the support didn’t stop there.
Our residents wanted to contribute too.
During one of our much-loved baking club sessions, residents came together to bake homemade high-protein energy flapjacks, especially for the participants. Filled with wholesome ingredients and made with plenty of care, the flapjacks provided the perfect snack to keep energy levels high throughout the day.
Rebecca Knight, who proudly helped bake the flapjacks, summed up the feeling perfectly:
“Knowing that something we’d made would help keep everyone going made me feel really proud. We might not have been running the race, but it felt like we were part of the team.”
It was wonderful to see residents taking such pride in supporting a local community event and knowing their baking would help fuel such an incredible challenge.
Before the participants set off from Bishop’s Cleeve, we were also delighted to welcome Josh Graves, Community Engagement Officer at the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation.
Josh spent time with our residents leading a fun and engaging hand-to-eye coordination session inspired by cricket. The activity was as always filled with smiles, laughter and friendly competition as residents enjoyed trying new skills while keeping both their minds and bodies active.
Reflecting on the day, Terri, Wellbeing Coordinator at Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home, said:
“It was wonderful to see our residents so involved. From baking flapjacks to enjoying Josh’s cricket session, everyone loved being part of such a fantastic community event.”
The session perfectly demonstrated how sport can be adapted to suit all ages and abilities, something that sits at the heart of the Foundation’s mission to improve lives through the power of cricket.
Whether it was our chefs preparing breakfast, residents baking nutritious treats, or everyone cheering participants on as they continued their journey, there was a genuine sense of togetherness throughout the morning.
We would like to thank everyone at the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation, especially Josh Graves and all the incredible participants, for allowing Bishop’s Cleeve Care Home to be part of such an inspiring event.
Congratulations to everyone involved in completing this fantastic challenge and for helping raise awareness of the Foundation’s work in creating healthier, stronger and more connected communities across Gloucestershire.
We look forward to welcoming the team back to Bishop’s Cleeve again soon.
