Braemount Care Home Hosts First Ever Silent Disco

26 February 2025

Braemount Care Home is usually a peaceful and serene place, where soft conversations echo through the hallways, offering a sense of calm and comfort. But this afternoon, something special was happening. The day room, usually a quiet space, had been transformed into a vibrant celebration of music and joy as Braemount hosted its first-ever silent disco.

The idea was sparked by a thoughtful resident, whose niece recognised how much the residents loved music. With many residents enjoying tunes by the likes of Tom Jones or Neil Diamond, it became clear that a musical event could be something truly special. However, with many of the residents being frail and others sensitive to loud noises, a traditional dance party wasn’t an ideal solution. The answer? A silent disco.

As the afternoon unfolded, the room came alive with the sound of music – but only to those wearing oversised wireless headphones. The residents, some mobile and others in bed, were able to enjoy their favourite songs without any of the discomfort that loud noises might cause. Staff members assisted each resident in selecting the tunes that would bring them the most joy.

Among those enjoying the event was Grace, a huge Tom Jones fan, who was soon up and dancing to the iconic tunes. Slowly, more residents joined in, some shuffling onto the makeshift dance floor at their own pace, moving with joy and freedom.

Perhaps the most touching moment was when Angus, a resident who is nursed in bed and typically doesn’t engage in such activities, was encouraged to participate. To the delight of the staff and his fellow residents, Angus had an unforgettable time enjoying the music through his headphones.

It was an afternoon filled with fun, laughter, and connection. The silent disco not only brought music to the residents’ hearts but allowed everyone, regardless of their mobility, to participate in the joy of dancing and singing along to their favorite songs. It was such a success that the staff is already planning another event in the near future.

Braemount Care Home’s silent disco is a perfect example of how creative ideas can bring joy and togetherness, proving that even in quiet moments, there’s always room for a little music and fun.
