Building Connections Across Generations at Burrswood Care Home
21 April 2026
Burrswood Care Home has been bringing generations together through a series of meaningful intergenerational activities, creating moments of joy, connection, and shared understanding for residents and the wider community.
Recently, the home welcomed members of a local Community Toddler Group, where three mothers and their babies, aged between 18 and 20 months, spent time with residents. The visit created a warm and uplifting atmosphere, filled with laughter, conversation, and simple but powerful shared moments.
For residents, interacting with young children often brings back fond memories, lifts mood, and helps reduce feelings of loneliness. For the children and their parents, the experience offers a valuable opportunity to build empathy, understanding, and respect for older generations.
In addition, Burrswood Care Home partnered with Year 6 students from St. John’s and St. Mark’s, who visited to take part in a creative portrait project. The students spent time getting to know residents, listening to their stories, and capturing their personalities through thoughtful artwork. The activity sparked meaningful conversations and celebrated the individuality of each resident, while encouraging mutual appreciation and learning.
These initiatives highlight the power of connecting different age groups. By bringing together young families, school children, and older adults, Burrswood Care Home continues to foster inclusion, reduce isolation, and strengthen community bonds — creating a more compassionate and connected environment for all.
