Celebrating 99 Wonderful Years: A Birthday Bash at Cloisters Care Home
5 February 2025
On Monday, January 20th, Mary Pearce celebrated a remarkable milestone—her 99th birthday—surrounded by her loved ones, friends, and colleagues at Cloisters Care Home. The day was filled with laughter, music, and love as Mary shared her special day with those closest to her.
The celebrations began early in the morning when colleagues at Cloisters transformed the Cloisters Café into a festive surprise for Mary. Her sons and daughter-in-laws were there, eagerly awaiting the moment they could reveal the party to her. It was a heartwarming sight as Mary walked into the café, where her family had gathered to celebrate her. The room was decorated beautifully, setting the stage for a day of joy.
As the day progressed, Mary enjoyed time socialising with her family, reminiscing about old times, and celebrating the many years of memories she has accumulated. It was a relaxed, joyful atmosphere that allowed everyone to connect and share stories.
Later in the day, the celebrations continued in full swing, as Mary’s friends at Cloisters joined in to wish her a happy birthday. Mary was treated to a delicious birthday cake, kindly provided by her family, while Chef at Cloisters had also baked a delightful chocolate gateau in her honour. The sweet treats, along with tea and coffee, added to the warmth of the event.
The highlight of the afternoon was the singing. Mary’s friends at Cloisters gathered around as they sang her favourite songs. Laughter filled the room as the group sang classic tunes like “When You’re Smiling”, “White Cliffs of Dover”, and “Roll Out the Barrel”. Of course, no celebration would be complete without Mary’s special song about a winkle, which always brings a smile to her face. Mary beamed with joy throughout the party, clapping and laughing along with the music.
In a heartfelt moment, Mary shared her thoughts on the occasion. “I have had a lovely time celebrating, I am 99 today, and I am going to get a special birthday card from the King very soon! Lucky me,” she said with a twinkle in her eye. She continued, “I have had a very enjoyable life, and I am very happy to have so many good memories, a lovely family, and all my friends here at Cloisters.”
Mary’s sons, daughter-in-laws, colleagues, and fellow residents were all in attendance, making the event a true community celebration. Residents danced in their chairs, cheering and clapping, clearly enjoying the lively atmosphere. The party was a beautiful reminder of the bonds of friendship and family that enrich our lives.
The day was a perfect reflection of the love and happiness that Mary has fostered over her 99 years. With a smile on her face and a heart full of memories, Mary was surrounded by the people who care about her the most—a birthday to remember, indeed
