Cheers All Around: Ryland View Residents Enjoy a Classic Pub Afternoon
16 April 2025
On Tuesday 18th February, residents from Ryland View Care Home stepped out for a nostalgic afternoon at the local pub Port “N” Ale, where laughter, chatter, and good company were flowing just as freely as the pints.
The visit was a joyful reminder of simple pleasures — a cold drink, some crisps, and quality time spent together. The outing proved to be more than just a pub visit; it was a beautiful chance to relive fond memories and enjoy familiar surroundings.
“Sheila was absolutely overjoyed,” said one of the staff. “She said having a pint and getting out really made her smile.”
George, another resident, was thrilled to be back in a local pub. “It was nice to enjoy a pint of bitter surrounded by friends. I just love being outside and spending time with others,” he shared, adding that he speaks about the trip daily and couldn’t wait to tell his wife how much he enjoyed it.
Brenda, who sipped on a lager shandy, was all smiles. “There was even a singer in the pub — I’d love to go back,” she said.
Maureen also joined in the fun with a refreshing shandy and was especially happy to share the afternoon with her daughter.
Gwen, Housekeeping Supervisor, summed it up perfectly: “What a lovely afternoon — seeing the residents smiling and truly enjoying each other’s company was wonderful.”
Sarah, Activities Co-ordinator, echoed the sentiment: “It’s always a joy watching residents enjoy the things they used to do. These moments mean so much.”
It was an afternoon filled with familiar comforts, new memories, and shared joy — and there’s no doubt that another round at Port “N” Ale is already on the horizon.
