Cloisters Care Home Hosts Thrilling Sports Day with RISE
30 September 2024
Cloisters Care Home was alive with excitement as residents and staff participated in a vibrant Sports Day organized by RISE, an initiative dedicated to improving wellbeing through adapted sports. The event brought together RISE sports referees, residents, and colleagues for a day filled with laughter, competition, and community spirit.
The Sports Day featured a variety of activities, including hockey, balloon tennis, and ball games, with residents forming teams and competing for gold trophies. The atmosphere was electric, as participants cheered each other on, showcasing their skills and teamwork.
Pamela, one of the residents, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I do not usually play sports, but this has been a real joy. I loved the hockey—wow, it was amazing! We played sitting down, and I felt so safe and thrilled that our team won!”
Ken added, “The wellbeing coordinator has organized a fantastic afternoon for us all. At my age, I am playing hockey and ball games! I feel like a youngster again. I loved sports as a child and feel so happy that I am still able to play. Thank you!”
The impact of the Sports Day on residents’ wellbeing was profound. They relished the opportunity to engage in physical activity and cognitive challenges, fostering a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition. The cheering and support among teams created a vibrant community spirit, with referees keeping the games fun and fair—even issuing a few yellow cards in the process!
The event was not just a one-time occurrence; RISE plans to organize Sports Day at Cloisters each month, ensuring that residents have ongoing opportunities to engage in physical activity, improve their fitness, and experience the joy of sports.
RISE aims to help people get active, have fun, and enhance their wellbeing through their unique ‘adapted sports’ program, enabling everyone to enjoy games while competing together.
Cloisters Care Home’s Sports Day was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of community involvement and the positive effects of physical activity on the residents’ lives.
