The annual summer fête at Craigbank Nursing Home was a vibrant and memorable event, bringing together residents, families, staff, and the wider community for a day filled with fun, nostalgia, and generosity. Held on a sunny Friday afternoon, the fête raised an impressive £1,100.
A highlight of the event was the presence of a vintage bus, which delighted both young and old. Residents and their families enjoyed a nostalgic trip down memory lane as they reminisced about the bygone days of travel. Children were equally thrilled to explore the bus, adding an extra touch of excitement to their day.
The fête also featured a fire engine, with firefighters on hand to demonstrate the equipment used in emergencies. This interactive experience was educational for all ages and offered a unique glimpse into the work of local heroes. The police department also participated, showcasing a police vehicle with flashing blue lights, which was a big hit among the kids.
Alzheimer Scotland set up an information center at the fête, providing valuable resources and support for those affected by the disease. Their presence underscored the importance of community support and awareness, and many attendees took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about Alzheimer’s and the work being done to combat it.
Live entertainment kept the atmosphere lively, with music and performances encouraging everyone to dance and enjoy the day. The event featured a variety of stalls offering everything from handcrafted goods to fun activities. A bustling food court satisfied all appetites with a selection of hot dogs, burgers, rice and curry, and classic tea and cake.
Games and competitions were plentiful, including “Beat the Goalie,” football scratch cards offering prizes such as a tour for two of Celtic FC and a Rangers football signed by players, “Splash the Boss,” tombola for both adults and kids, raffle tickets with ten exciting prizes, and a “Guess the Sweeties Jar” game that tested everyone’s estimation skills.
Staff at Craigbank care home expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in making the event a success. “We are thrilled with the turnout and the amount we raised,” said the event coordinator. “It’s heartwarming to see the community come together for a good cause, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our residents, staff, families, and all the volunteers and visitors.”
