Deanfield Care Home Celebrates Dobbies Community Gardens Entry with a Blooming Gift
15 July 2025
Deanfield Care Home was proud to take part in the annual Dobbies Community Gardens Competition this spring, joining countless community groups across the UK in a celebration of green spaces and garden living.
Although Deanfield wasn’t named the winner of their local Dobbies store this year, the home received a special certificate of entry and was gifted two beautiful hanging flower baskets as a token of appreciation for their participation.
The initiative, which invites community groups to enter in March and announces winners in May, encourages people to engage with nature and improve wellbeing through gardening. The winners from each store are revealed during in-store Grow How sessions—a community gathering where Dobbies teams share gardening advice and award-winning entries.
Deepa, Home Manager at Deanfield Care Home, expressed her pride in the home’s involvement:
“We may not have won, but being part of a campaign that brings the community together through nature is something to celebrate. Our residents were thrilled to receive the hanging baskets—they’ve brought a splash of colour and joy to our garden space.”
She added, “Gardening is an important part of life here at Deanfield. It’s calming, creative, and offers a sense of achievement to our residents. Initiatives like this remind us how connected we are to our local community.”
Deanfield Care Home plans to continue nurturing its garden spaces and looks forward to participating again next year. They are also exploring how to incorporate more community gardening projects in the future, inspired by the warmth and generosity of the Dobbies team.
The Dobbies Grow How session at the local store was held on Saturday 3rd May at 10:30am, where the winners were officially announced and community groups had the opportunity to network and share ideas.
