Elderslie Care Home: A Heartwarming Day of Connection with Nursery and Pet Therapy Visit

30 September 2024

At Elderslie Care Home, creating meaningful connections is at the core of our mission, and our recent event truly exemplified this commitment. As part of our B’ Happie Initiative, which focuses on promoting joy and togetherness, we had the pleasure of hosting a joint visit from a local children’s nursery and the wonderful team at Bunny & Co. for a day filled with smiles, laughter, and heartwarming moments.

The day was a beautiful blend of intergenerational bonding and the therapeutic benefits of interacting with animals. Our residents were overjoyed to see the nursery children, whose energy and enthusiasm brought a vibrant atmosphere to the home. The presence of the children sparked joy and reminiscence among our residents, creating an environment of warmth and happiness. As one resident noted, “It was so lovely seeing all the children petting the animals.”

In addition to the joy that the children brought, the pet therapy session provided by Bunny & Co. was a highlight of the day. Pet therapy has been shown to offer numerous benefits, especially for the elderly. Interaction with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and provide comfort and companionship. The gentle touch of a soft rabbit or the sight of a friendly guinea pig can evoke positive emotions and even stimulate memory. As one resident shared, “The animals were so lovely, I enjoyed a wee cuddle with the rabbit.”

The event not only brightened the day for our residents but also reinforced the importance of our B’ Happie Initiative in fostering a sense of community and belonging.
These moments of connection—whether through the innocent joy of a child or the comforting presence of a pet—are invaluable to the well-being of our residents. They remind us all of the power of togetherness and the happiness that comes from shared experiences.

We look forward to more events like this that bring joy, comfort, and a sense of connection to everyone at Elderslie Care Home. Thank you to the nursery, Bunny & Co., and all who contributed to making this day so memorable!
