Festive Cheer Lights Up Madeira House Care Home

22 January 2025

Madeira House Care Home celebrated the holiday season with a week-long extravaganza filled with joy, laughter, and festive spirit. Residents, staff, and the local community came together to make this Christmas unforgettable, with a host of events and activities bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.

At the start of the Christmas period, Arnolds Funeral Directors, a local family-run business, once again demonstrated their unwavering support for Madeira House by kindly donating a stunning Christmas tree. Arnolds Funeral Directors have supported the home for several years, including offering training sessions for staff on supporting families and loved ones through the bereavement process. This year, they went a step further by funding a live entertainer, singer David Martin, who performed at the care home’s Christmas party.

Residents and staff gathered to decorate the Christmas tree with handcrafted decorations made by the children of Greenwich House Kindergarten. The children also visited the home to make Christmas decorations with the residents, creating a heart-warming connection between generations. The visit brought back fond memories for many residents, who shared their stories with staff and the children. One resident shared: “Wow, I love the traditional real tree. It reminds me of being a young boy.”

Dressed in their favourite Christmas jumpers adorned with tinsel and sparkles, residents, staff, family members, and friends gathered by the tree for a grand light switch-on on December 12th. Following the light switch-on, the afternoon was filled with festive activities, including wrapping Christmas presents and singing along to traditional holiday music. The festive spirit was truly in full swing, with so much laughter and joy.

On December 20th, the care home hosted its annual Christmas party, featuring live entertainment by David Martin. Residents and staff enjoyed a delicious buffet while singing and dancing to their favourite festive tunes. The event brought everyone together, with staff joining residents on the dance floor to celebrate the season.

Christmas Day was made extra special with a surprise visit from Santa and his elf, who delivered gifts to each resident. The morning was filled with festive songs and cheerful conversations, followed by family visits and a sumptuous three-course Christmas meal. One resident mused: “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a visit from Santa over the Christmas period?” Their wish came true, creating unforgettable memories for all.

Madeira House Care Home’s Christmas celebration week exemplified the true spirit of the season—community, generosity, and togetherness.
