Golfhill Care Home Resident Celebrates 103rd Birthday with a Love of Wotsits, Quavers and Dogs

27 July 2026

There was plenty to celebrate at Golfhill Care Home as resident Margaret Campbell marked her remarkable 103rd birthday, sharing the light-hearted secret behind her longevity, a lifelong love of Wotsits, Quavers and dogs.

Originally from Dennistoun, Margaret has become a much-loved member of the Golfhill community, where staff, fellow residents and her family came together to make sure her milestone birthday was one to remember.

Margaret believes her favourite crisps have played a part in keeping her going over the years, while spending time with visiting dogs always brings a smile to her face.

She said:

“It’s true, my diet of Wotsits and Quavers is the reason I have reached this great age! I also get a real boost whenever dogs come to visit the home, especially my daughter Irene’s dog, Chica.”

“I had a lovely birthday party, which is all thanks to my carers, who saved the day when things went wrong!”

The celebrations almost faced an unexpected setback when the singer booked to perform had to cancel at the last minute due to ill health. Determined not to let the occasion be spoiled, the Golfhill team quickly stepped in, creating their own entertainment and ensuring Margaret’s special day went ahead in style.

With the home’s very own karaoke enthusiasts leading the way, residents, families and staff enjoyed an afternoon of singing, laughter and classic songs, creating memories that Margaret will cherish.

Senior Care Assistant Collette said:

“It was touch and go for a minute there, but we were determined to make sure Margaret’s marvellous milestone was celebrated properly.

“Thankfully, we had our karaoke queens there to get the party started, and everyone had a brilliant sing-along to lots of classic tracks.

“Margaret loved it, and we loved treating her like a queen!”

The celebration perfectly reflected the caring and family atmosphere at Golfhill Care Home, where every resident’s special moments are celebrated with warmth, creativity and compassion. Everyone at the home would like to wish Margaret a very happy 103rd birthday and many more happy moments filled with her favourite crisps, visits from Chica, and plenty of music.
