Gorton Parks Care Home Hosts Heartfelt VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebration
26 May 2025
Gorton Parks Care Home came alive with music, dancing, and reflection as residents, families, and staff came together on Thursday 9th May to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special celebration held at Melland House.
The day began with a respectful two-minute silence in honour of all who served and sacrificed during World War II, followed by a joyful celebration that united the entire care community. A live singer provided entertainment with a variety of nostalgic tunes, including residents’ favourites such as Elvis, setting the perfect tone for a day of remembrance and joy.
Party food was served buffet-style, alongside fizzy drinks, tea, and coffee, as residents and families shared stories, danced, and enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere. Many residents spent the afternoon reminiscing about life during the war, some recalling their experiences as war children.
“This is what it’s all about,” said Kirsty, a team member. “I love to see the residents dancing and smiling.”
Rinkal added, “I really love these parties – it brings the residents and team together. I love to see everyone happy.”
Resident Alan Oakes shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Can’t wait for the next one!”
Gorton Parks holds these uplifting events twice a month across the site, providing cherished moments of connection and community. The VE Day party, in particular, served as a powerful reminder of the past, while celebrating the spirit of togetherness that defines Gorton Parks today.
