Gorton Parks Care Home Residents Enjoy New Life in Refurbished Garden
6 May 2025
The Abbey Hey garden at Gorton Parks Care Home has recently undergone a much-needed refurbishment, thanks to the generous donation of £2,000 from a resident’s family member and the combined efforts of staff, residents, and their loved ones.
The garden project, led by Tracy Donnelly and supported by the activities and admin teams, has already transformed the outdoor space into a brighter, more welcoming area. While the project is still ongoing, new features are being added with a focus on creating a colourful, dementia-friendly environment that residents can enjoy all year round.
The refurbished garden was recently celebrated with a small gathering, where residents, staff, and family members enjoyed the sunshine, music from a singer, and the peaceful atmosphere of their improved outdoor space. Residents were able to relax and admire the new flowers and features, with many commenting on the positive change.
“This is great, the weather is beautiful,” said resident Alan Oakes, while George Mooney added, “The flowers look great whilst sitting outside—the weather is perfect.” One visiting family member summed it up simply: “Wow, the garden looks beautiful.”
Staff have also felt the impact. “This is looking fantastic,” one staff member said. “I can’t wait to sit outside with the residents.”
The garden has already had a significant impact on residents’ wellbeing—stimulating their senses, encouraging social interaction, and providing a sense of calm and purpose. It’s now a regular spot for outdoor meals, activities, and even garden parties, making it a true hub of life at Gorton Parks.
This refurbishment marks the beginning of an ongoing project, and we’re excited to keep building on this wonderful space together.
