Hammerwich Hall Care Home Creates a Buzz for World Bee Day
27 May 2025
On Tuesday 20th May, the residents and colleagues of Hammerwich Hall Care Home came together to celebrate World Bee Day, a global event dedicated not only to appreciating bees but also to raising awareness about their vital role in the environment—and the growing threats they face.
In the lead-up to the celebration, residents got hands-on in the kitchen with Wellbeing Coordinator Paulina, baking homemade Honey and Orange Cakes in preparation for the big day. The sweet aroma of citrus and honey filled the home, setting the tone for what would be a truly “buzz-worthy” occasion.
On World Bee Day, residents and staff dressed in black and yellow, showing solidarity with their pollinating pals. (Luckily for care staff, their uniforms already fit the theme!) Activities were both fun and educational—residents watched a bee-themed programme, enjoyed a Daily Sparkle quiz, and even did their part for the environment by helping a tired bee in the garden with a little sugar water.
The menu matched the theme too, with refreshing honey and lemon iced tea served alongside the homemade cakes. “I think we should make the Bee Cake more often,” smiled Margaret, a resident.
This year’s celebration also helped spread awareness about the rising threat of Yellow-legged Asian Hornets in the UK, encouraging vigilance and support for the British Beekeepers Association’s efforts to protect pollinators.
With learning, laughter, and lots of sweetness, Hammerwich Hall’s World Bee Day 2025 was truly the bee’s knees.
