Hammerwich Hall Celebrates Chinese New Year with Fun and Festivities

4 February 2025

On January 29th, residents and staff at Hammerwich Hall Care Home embraced the spirit of Chinese New Year with a day filled with engaging activities, delicious food, and cultural experiences.

The celebrations began with a lively quiz and an armchair travel session to China, allowing residents to immerse themselves in the traditions and wonders of the country. “The Chinese New Year celebrations were marvellous. I loved everything about this day. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was great,” said Sally, a resident who thoroughly enjoyed the day’s events.

One of the highlights of the day was the entertaining “Guess What’s in the Envelope” game, where participants tried to identify hidden objects. Gurjinder, a staff member, found the game particularly engaging, commenting, “I enjoyed the ‘Guess What’s in the Envelope’ game and the quiz about China.” Martin, a staff member, emerged as the winner by correctly guessing that the envelope contained Haribo sweets.

At lunchtime, residents were treated to a feast of Chinese cuisine, featuring sweet and sour chicken served with prawn crackers and duck spring rolls. “I loved the food, especially the duck spring rolls,” shared Midge, another resident who was delighted with the meal. Margaret, another participant, added, “Our activities coordinator looked wonderful in a lovely outfit and kept us entertained. I also enjoyed all of the food.”

The afternoon continued with residents exploring books about China and listening to traditional Chinese music, adding to the immersive experience. Adding to the festive spirit, the activities coordinator delighted everyone by dressing in a traditional Chinese-style outfit, bringing an extra touch of authenticity to the celebration.

The day was a resounding success, bringing joy, laughter, and a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture to all who took part. Events like these continue to create wonderful memories for residents at Hammerwich Hall, fostering a warm and inclusive community spirit.
