Hammerwich Hall Celebrates Father’s Day with Laughter, Games, and Heartfelt Moments
15 July 2025
On Sunday 15th June 2025, Hammerwich Hall Care Home was filled with smiles, stories, and special moments as residents, relatives, and colleagues came together to celebrate Father’s Day.
The origins of Father’s Day trace back to 1910, when Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, held the first celebration to honour her father, a single parent and Civil War veteran. It wasn’t until 1972 that it was officially recognised as a national holiday in the United States—an occasion that continues to be cherished around the world today.
At Hammerwich Hall, the celebrations were heartfelt and festive. The dining room and tearoom were beautifully decorated with colourful balloons, a grand balloon arch, and cheerful banners proudly displaying “Happy Father’s Day” messages. The setting created the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of togetherness and fun.
Each of the gentlemen—residents and colleagues alike—were treated to alcohol-free beers and sweet cones, carefully prepared as thoughtful gifts. The atmosphere was one of warmth and laughter as families gathered around tables to enjoy classic board games like Connect 4, Scrabble, and Dominoes.
“It was such a lovely day,” shared one resident. “We felt so appreciated, and it was great to spend time with family over games we used to play when we were younger.”
A huge thank you goes to the Wellbeing Team for making the occasion so memorable and ensuring every father figure at Hammerwich felt seen and celebrated.
