Hammerwich Hall Shines Bright with Joyful Diwali Celebrations
18 November 2024
On November 1st, Hammerwich Hall Care Home came alive with light, color, and celebration as residents, staff, and relatives gathered to mark Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The day was a spectacular showcase of tradition, culture, and community, making it the home’s first-ever Diwali celebration—and an unforgettable one.
The festivities began with everyone dressing in vibrant Indian attire, including kurtas, lehenga cholis, and saris, adding a festive touch to the day. Beautifully crafted rangoli designs adorned the floors, while glowing diyas illuminated the home, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
No celebration is complete without a feast, and Hammerwich Hall delivered an extraordinary spread of traditional Indian dishes. Residents and visitors enjoyed an array of delicacies, from chicken curry and vegetarian Manchurian to daal, naan, roti, and basmati rice. Savoury snacks like samosas, pakoras, and spring rolls set the tone, while sweet treats like barfi and jalebi provided the perfect finish.
Bollywood music and traditional dancing added a lively rhythm to the day, with everyone joining in to enjoy the vibrant energy. Resident Margaret was particularly impressed: “It was really exciting seeing all the people dressed in beautiful outfits dancing, and I loved tasting all the authentic food. I was so happy to celebrate Diwali with my daughter, who also loved the celebrations.”
Manager Lynda Garfield praised the staff and families who made the celebration a reality: “Thank you to our amazing staff for helping us celebrate Diwali for the first time in our home. Your hard work in organizing this special day and preparing delicious food for our residents, staff, and visitors made all the difference. A heartfelt thanks also goes to their families for their support, which made this celebration even more memorable. Together, we have created a beautiful festival of light and joy.”
The celebration was made even more special by the contributions of Gurjinder and Raj, who worked tirelessly to ensure the event was perfect. Claire, from the admin team, shared her gratitude: “Today was brilliant. Thank you, Raj, Gurjinder, and family, for letting us celebrate with you. It was so nice to have you all there, and thank you for the wonderful food.”
