Hammerwich Hall Travels to Mexico for National Chili Con Carne Day

1 March 2025

Hammerwich Hall was bursting with colour, flavour, and fun on 27th February as residents celebrated National Chili Con Carne Day with a vibrant armchair travel experience to Mexico.

In the spirit of the occasion, residents got hands-on in the kitchen, preparing a traditional Mexican dessert—tres leches cake, which means “three milks” cake. Made a day in advance to allow the flavours to infuse and the cake to set just right, it proved to be a highlight of the celebration.

On the day, residents were immersed in Mexican culture with lively music, dancing, and even trying on traditional hats. The home was filled with laughter and excitement as everyone embraced the theme. Residents also enjoyed tasting a variety of snacks, including crunchy tortilla chips served with guacamole, sour cream and chives, tomato salsa, and spicy chili cheese dip.

Lunch featured a delicious homemade chili con carne, lovingly prepared by our talented kitchen staff. The main course was a hit, followed by the much-anticipated tres leches cake for pudding.

One resident shared, “The Mexican and Chili Con Carne Day was amazing. Everything was perfect—especially the chili con carne—it was so delicious and authentic!”

Another esident said, “It was such an enjoyable day. I loved trying new flavours and watching the entertainment—our activities lady dressed in traditional Mexican dress and danced beautifully.”

It was a memorable day full of flavour, culture, and community spirit—¡Viva México
