Haydale Care Home Celebrates National Sunglasses Day with Sunshine, Smiles, and Bertie the Bee

1 July 2025

Haydale Care Home turned up the summer vibes with a bright and joyful celebration for National Sunglasses Day, transforming an ordinary morning into a heartwarming, laughter-filled event that truly embodied the B Happie pillars of being Connected, Safe, and Relaxed.

Led by the dedicated Wellbeing Team, the home was treated to a vibrant, summer-themed trolley brimming with refreshing juices, sun-shaped biscuits, novelty props, and the sweet sounds of uplifting summer music. The celebration was designed to bring joy, comfort, and connection to all, with every detail thoughtfully considered to make residents feel engaged and at ease.

The highlight of the morning was a novelty seaside cardboard cutout that had everyone grinning from ear to ear as residents and staff took turns striking poses. The room echoed with laughter and warm chatter as everyone embraced the light-hearted spirit of the day.

Residents also enjoyed tossing around a beach ball while donning giant novelty sunglasses, making for plenty of playful moments. The event also marked the introduction of the home’s brand-new B Happie mascot, Bertie the Bee, who was met with big smiles and photo requests.

Resident Tommy Redpath joked, “I don’t think my sunglasses were big enough!” while Jean McNamara laughed, “They should be called rain glasses in Scotland!”

It was a day full of fun, friendship, and sunshine (even if just in spirit), leaving residents feeling relaxed, uplifted, and thoroughly connected — a true success in every sense of the B Happie way.
