Haydale Care Home Hosts Advinia’s Annual Easter Bake Off Celebration

16 April 2025

Haydale Care Home was full of sweet delights and festive cheer today as it proudly hosted Advinia’s Annual Easter Bake Off – a vibrant event that brought together staff, families, and residents from across the Advinia family.

The bake off was a true celebration of community, creativity, and Easter spirit. Homes from across Advinia were invited to take part, with entries coming in from far and wide – including a special appearance from Hillview and Craigbank Care Homes, who joined the event in person to share in the fun.

This year’s competition featured 10 delicious entries, showcasing a wide range of flavours from zesty orange chocolate fudge to classic carrot cake. A panel of four esteemed judges had the enviable task of tasting their way through the treats: Tina Chapman (Operations Director), Fiona Hunter (Divisional Director), Iain Ballatyne (Home Manager, Rutherglen), and Lynn McLaughlin (Clinical Services Manager, Haydale). Entries were scored across four key categories – taste, texture, appearance, and creativity.

After much deliberation (and a lot of cake), the grand prize was awarded to Elizabeth McKeegan, a relative of a resident, for her stunning “B Happie” carrot cake, beautifully shaped and topped with vanilla icing. Elizabeth took home a gift card and an Easter hamper as her prize.

Second place went to Jamie McDavitt for his playful “Bunny Surprise” cake, and third place was awarded to Hillview Care Home for their charming “Easter Bunny Bake.”

The event was filled with laughter, delicious aromas, and warm cups of tea as attendees sampled each creation. One resident, Margaret McDonald, summed it up perfectly:
“This was wonderful – you get to try so many delicious cakes, and it never cost me a penny!”

The Easter Bake Off was not just about baking; it was a reminder of the joy that comes from shared experiences, community spirit, and a little sugar on top.
