With laughter in the air and a strong sense of community spirit, Haydale’s car boot sale was a shining example of how care homes can be hubs of joy, openness, and meaningful connection.
Haydale Care Home Hosts Lively Community Car Boot Sale for Care Home Open Week
1 July 2025
As part of this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations, Haydale Care Home welcomed the local community for a vibrant and sun-soaked Car Boot Sale on Saturday 21st June, bringing together residents, families, staff, and neighbours for a joyful day of connection and celebration.
Held in collaboration with Advinia’s B Happie initiative, the event reflected the core values of being Connected, Safe, and Relaxed, with a bustling atmosphere full of friendly faces, delicious hot dogs, and treasures waiting to be found.
Residents were actively involved in the day, with many supported to spend their own money — promoting independence, choice, and confidence. One resident, Rena Mitchell, was especially thrilled to find “lots of new teddies” to add to her growing collection.
The boot sale not only provided a fun day out, but also helped strengthen ties between Haydale and the wider community. Visitors got a chance to see inside the home, learn more about daily life there, and enjoy heartwarming moments with residents and staff.
Local church member Margaret Paxton praised the event, even taking to Facebook to share her gratitude:
“Thanks Kirstin and Izzy for including us in your annual Boot Sale. We had so much fun today – met some amazing people – especially the 93 going on 94-year-old lady. What an inspiration she is to us all, especially us ageing pensioners – who give the odd moan and groan. Thanks again girls.”
