Haydale Care Home Revives Unused Lounge as the Haydale Arms Music Lounge
12 February 2025
Haydale Care Home has breathed new life into an unused lounge with the grand reopening of the Haydale Arms, now transformed into the Haydale Arms Music Lounge. This vibrant space celebrates the powerful connection between music and memory, offering Residents a therapeutic and joyful environment to reconnect with their past and engage with others.
The transformation aligns with the B Happie pillars—Safe, Relaxed, and Connected—providing a secure and welcoming space where Residents can feel at ease and engaged. Music, known for its profound ability to evoke memories and emotions, serves as a bridge to the past and a means of expression, fostering social interaction and reducing anxiety.
Wellbeing Coordinator Isabel Cummings shared the inspiration behind the transformation, saying, “The residents came together and decided what they would like the old Haydale Arms to become, and a common interest they all had was Music. So we rebranded the Haydale Arms to include the residents’ love of music and socialising.”
Her colleague, Kirstin Millar, added, “Music is a universal language and when words fail, music speaks.” The new music lounge not only offers entertainment but also serves as a therapeutic space, enhancing communication, mood, and overall quality of life for Residents.
The Haydale Arms Music Lounge will host the popular Rem-a-sing group, promoting reminiscing through singing, and can also be used by families for parties or get-togethers, reinforcing a sense of community and connection. Resident Ella McLeish expressed her excitement, saying, “Wow, what a difference! The room looks so welcoming and warm now. I can’t wait to have a sing-a-long.”
Through the healing power of music, the Haydale Arms Music Lounge is set to become a cherished sanctuary for Residents, celebrating shared memories and creating new ones.
