Haydale Care Home Staff Brave Red Weather Warning to Care for Residents
4 February 2025
Amidst a red weather warning, dedicated staff at Haydale Care Home went above and beyond to care for their vulnerable residents, including those with dementia, learning disabilities, and frail elderly individuals. Demonstrating remarkable commitment, staff walked from across Glasgow—even as far as Hamilton—and organised car pools to ensure they could be there for those who rely on them.
Inside the home, the atmosphere was warm and cheerful, with the heating on full blast and residents cosied up. In line with Rabbie Burns Day and the B Happie initiative, staff were rewarded with a playful game of B Happie – “Find the Wild Haggis.” A Haggis character was hidden around the care home, and those lucky enough to find one won a prize. This fun activity not only distracted everyone from the severe weather outside but also served as a heartfelt thank you to staff for their selflessness and hard work during the life-threatening conditions.
Resident Alice Softly, aged 69, shared her excitement, saying, “I helped the care staff look for the haggis, it was fun and kept me busy as I should have been out shopping today.” The day continued with a Scottish treat celebration in honour of Rabbie Burns, featuring Tunnock treats, shortbread, and Irn Bru.
Wellbeing Coordinator Isabel Cummings reflected on the event, stating, “It was a thank you to the staff while having fun with the residents, and that is what Haydale Care Home is all about.”
Through challenging weather and uncertain conditions, the team at Haydale Care Home showcased exceptional dedication and community spirit, ensuring safety, warmth, and joy for all.
