Madeira House Care Home Supports Wellbeing During Dementia Action Week Through Meaningful Activities

27 May 2026

Residents at Madeira House Care Home recently took part in a range of thoughtful activities during Dementia Action Week, focusing on mental stimulation, relaxation, social connection, and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout the week, residents enjoyed activities carefully designed to support both cognitive and emotional health in a calm and engaging environment. One popular activity involved completing jigsaw puzzles together, encouraging concentration, teamwork, and conversation. Residents found the sessions both mentally stimulating and therapeutic, with many enjoying the sense of achievement as puzzles gradually came together.

Music also played an important role during the week, with residents spending time listening and singing along to familiar songs. Music is known to support memory, reduce stress, and improve overall wellbeing, and the sessions sparked many happy memories and conversations between residents and staff.

Residents also took part in friendly games of skittles, both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather. The activity encouraged gentle movement, social interaction, and lots of laughter, creating a fun sense of competition and togetherness throughout the home.

To support relaxation and emotional wellbeing, guided meditation sessions were introduced during the week. Residents enjoyed taking time to slow down, relax, and focus on calming techniques designed to help reduce anxiety and regulate emotions.

When the weather allowed, residents also spent time outdoors bird watching and enjoying the fresh air. The peaceful activity created opportunities for quiet reflection, conversation, and connection with nature, while also providing a calming and therapeutic experience for residents.

The week highlighted the importance of meaningful, person-centred activities in supporting residents living with dementia, helping to create moments of comfort, joy, and connection every day at Madeira House Care Home.
