Madeira House Care Home Welcomes the Year of the Dragon with Joyful Chinese New Year Celebration
21 February 2026
Residents and staff at Madeira House Care Home recently came together for a vibrant and heartwarming celebration of Chinese New Year, enjoying a day filled with delicious food, music, laughter, and togetherness.
The home’s dining room was beautifully transformed for the occasion, decorated with traditional red lanterns, gold accents, and festive table settings that created a wonderful sense of celebration and atmosphere throughout the day.
Residents played an important role in choosing the special three-course menu, which offered the opportunity to try dishes many had not experienced before. The delicious feast included pork in black bean sauce to start, followed by fried rice with sweet and sour chicken, noodles, and vegetable stir-fry, before finishing with tasty banana pancakes for dessert.
The change from the usual menu proved to be a huge success, with residents enjoying both the flavours and the chance to celebrate a different culture together. The dining room was filled with smiles, conversation, and excitement as everyone embraced the festivities.
Following lunch, residents were entertained by live singer George, whose performance quickly became a highlight of the day. Many residents described him as one of the best entertainers they had ever seen, with singing, dancing, and a glass of wine helping to create a lively and uplifting atmosphere.
One particularly emotional moment came when resident Margaret surprised everyone by singing a solo performance, remembering every word to one of her favourite songs. Her heartfelt performance brought smiles — and even a few tears — to those around her.
New resident Hilda, who was staying at the home for a short break, described the celebration as “the best afternoon I’ve had in a long time.”
