Maycroft Care Home’s Summer Fete Raises Funds for Residents
22 July 2024
Despite a rainy start, the Maycroft Care Home’s summer fete turned out to be a delightful and successful event, raising a total of £561 for the residents’ fund. The morning’s bad weather forced the staff to move the festivities indoors, but by afternoon, when the sun finally made an appearance, it was too late to relocate outside.
The fete featured a variety of activities and treats, including a BBQ, homemade cream teas, summer punch (Maycroft’s own brand of Pimm’s), a cake stall, tombola, raffle, and glitter tattoos.
There were also numerous games for the children, ensuring fun for all ages. The event was well attended by both residents and people from the village, many of whom had no prior connection to Maycroft, adding to the vibrant community atmosphere.
The entertainment was top-notch, with the Bassingbourn Band performing under a gazebo in the rain, followed by the Meldreth Primary School choir and a regular favourite, singer Pauline. The music lifted spirits and added to the joyous ambiance of the day.
Kathy, daughter of resident Brenda, described it as “a truly lovely day.” Claire, a friend of Maycroft whose father Tony was a former resident, praised the event: “Well done to you all! It was lovely to see everyone and a great atmosphere.” Russel, son of resident John, shared, “It’s been a fantastic afternoon and dad’s really enjoyed being with the family.”
Matthew Cragg, the new Wellbeing Coordinator, expressed his gratitude: “I’ve enjoyed every bit of the summer fete. Thank you for inviting me over to help out.” Resident Pam P. appreciated the lively environment, stating, “It’s been lovely seeing such a buzz around the home,” while resident Peter was thrilled to attend, saying, “I’m so pleased I was able to make it; it’s been a wonderful afternoon.”
Lucy, the former Wellbeing Coordinator expressed, “I’m so proud of the whole Maycroft team and the fete committee who worked together to put on such a wonderful community event. Seeing the smiles on our residents’ faces was worth all the hard work!”
The Maycroft Care Home’s summer fete was a testament to the power of community and collaboration, providing a memorable day for all and valuable support for the residents’ fund.
