Meaningful Moment Brings Music, Dancing and Smiles to Haydale Resident
4 September 2026
A simple invitation led to a particularly special moment at Haydale Care Home, as resident Donna discovered a new way to enjoy some of her favourite music.
Donna rarely chooses to venture far from her room and, when she does, usually prefers spending quiet time in the lounge rather than taking part in organised activities.
So, when a member of the Haydale team invited Donna to visit the home’s Sensory Room and try out the Magic Table, everyone was delighted when she said yes.
Once there, Donna quickly began to enjoy the experience. She requested one of her favourite songs from The Bodyguard by Whitney Houston, followed by some Cliff Richard.
Before long, Donna was singing, dancing and smiling along to the music, clearly enjoying her time in the Sensory Room.
It was a particularly meaningful moment for the team, demonstrating how taking the time to understand an individual’s interests and offering opportunities without pressure can lead to wonderful experiences.
At Haydale, meaningful engagement doesn’t always have to come from large events or organised group activities. Sometimes, it can be as simple as finding the right opportunity at the right moment and discovering something that brings an individual joy.
Donna’s afternoon was a lovely example of the importance of person-centred care, recognising that every resident is different and supporting people to engage in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful to them.
For the Haydale team, seeing Donna singing, dancing and enjoying herself made the interaction all the more special – a small moment that created a very big smile.
