Millview Care Assistant Celebrates Incredible 30 Years of Service

A much-loved member of the team at Millview Nursing Home in Barrhead is celebrating an incredible milestone after dedicating 30 years to caring for residents at the home.
Katharine McShane, 57, began working at Millview on Carlibar Road before the home had even officially opened, making her one of its longest-serving members of staff.
Originally from England, Katharine moved to Barrhead in 1996 to be with her then-boyfriend, whom she later married. With a background as a chef, she initially joined Millview as a kitchen assistant before discovering her passion for care and moving into a Care Assistant role.
Three decades later, Katharine remains just as passionate about supporting residents and making a positive difference to their lives.
Katharine said:
“I can’t believe it’s been 30 years – my first job at Millview was as a kitchen assistant because I came from a chef background.
“However, I moved onto the caring side and never looked back. It’s a privilege to care for the residents and to make their days worthwhile. I enjoy finding out about their lives and listening to their stories.”
Over the years, Katharine has become a familiar and trusted face at Millview, building meaningful relationships with generations of residents, their families and fellow colleagues. Her wealth of experience has also made her an invaluable source of support and guidance for new members of the team.
Shaunmichael McLaughlin, Home Manager at Millview, praised Katharine’s dedication and the lasting contribution she has made to the home.
He said:
“Kath is such a dedicated and committed member of our team – we are so lucky to have her.
“Not only is she great at building relationships with the residents and their loved ones, but she’s a wonderful mentor for new members of staff. We always say, ‘If Kath doesn’t know it, then it’s not worth knowing.’
“Thank you so much, Kath, for being so brilliant and for three incredible decades of hard work.”
Katharine’s remarkable 30-year milestone is a testament to her dedication, compassion and genuine love for the people she supports.
