Millview Care Home Residents and Community Join Forces to Keep Barrhead Beautiful

Residents, families, children and members of the local community came together for a successful community litter pick organised by Millview Care Home, helping to remove 10 bags of rubbish from the streets of Barrhead while strengthening community connections.

The event formed part of the national Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign and saw volunteers set off from Millview Care Home on Carlibar Road before following a route along Levern Walkway, Park and Main Street, collecting litter and making a visible difference to the local area.

Despite experiencing what felt like four seasons in one afternoon, the enthusiastic volunteers refused to let the changing weather dampen their spirits. Sunshine, hail and rain all made an appearance, but everyone remained committed to supporting their local community.

The litter pick brought together multiple generations, with residents walking alongside their families, including great-grandchildren enjoying their Easter break, as well as local children and members of the public who were keen to lend a helping hand. The event highlighted the positive impact that community partnerships and intergenerational activities can have, giving residents the opportunity to stay active, spend quality time with loved ones and contribute to a meaningful local initiative.

Following the clean-up, volunteers returned to Millview Care Home to enjoy well-earned hot drinks and homemade cake, providing the perfect opportunity to reflect on the day’s achievements and celebrate the difference they had made together.

“It was a fantastic team effort which saw us contend with four seasons in one afternoon. One minute it was bright sunshine, then we had a hailstorm, then it rained, and then it was dry again. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits.

“It was fantastic to have residents and their families on the litter pick, including great-grandchildren who were on their Easter break. We also had some kind members of the local community join us for this wonderful cause.

“Everyone was saying how great it felt to have done something so positive for the local area and to make Barrhead clean and tidy. We fully intend to get more people involved as we host future litter picking events.”

The event demonstrated Millview Care Home’s ongoing commitment to supporting its local community while creating meaningful opportunities for residents to remain active, connected and involved. By working together to care for the environment, everyone involved helped make Barrhead a cleaner, greener place to live.
