Mini Maestro’s Return to West Ridings for a Joyful Intergenerational Session

26 February 2025

Wharfedale House at West Ridings was filled with laughter and joy as we welcomed back our friends, the Mini Maestro’s, for the first time this year. The local mum and toddler singing group, which includes children ranging from babies to 5 years old, once again brought their infectious energy to our residents for another fantastic intergenerational session.

The Mini Maestro’s group meets regularly in various locations around the area, and their visits to Wharfedale House are always eagerly anticipated by our residents. The sessions, where children and seniors interact through song and play, create meaningful connections that benefit both generations.

This time, residents from all the units at Wharfedale House joined in the fun, enjoying an afternoon filled with familiar songs like “Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” which had everyone joining in with actions, and other less familiar tunes. The children also handed out hand bells to the residents, letting them participate in the music-making. The highlight was when the children distributed brightly colored feathers, which everyone delighted in blowing and tossing around, creating a whirlwind of smiles and laughter.

After the session, the children and their parents stayed to chat with the residents, exchanging stories and enjoying a drink and a bun together.

Pamela, one of our residents, shared her joy, saying, “I love to see the children, and look at the little outfits they are wearing.” Another resident, Pauline, found the feathers amusing, commenting, “Who is going to clean them up!” to which Jo, the leader of the Mini Maestro’s, humorously replied that they were left for future arts and crafts projects.

Everyone had a fantastic afternoon, and we’re already looking forward to the next session planned for the Easter holidays. These intergenerational moments truly create lasting memories and a strong sense of community at Wharfedale House.
