Residents and staff at Netherton Green Care Home embraced Scottish culture in a wonderful Burns Night celebration. The day was filled with traditional food, music, and heartfelt memories, making it a truly special occasion.
Care assistant Ann, who originates from Scotland, collaborated with the chef to prepare a classic Scottish menu. Residents enjoyed Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties, followed by Clootie Dumpling with custard. In the afternoon, Ann also made Scottish Tablet as a special treat, while residents sipped on Irn-Bru, Scotland’s iconic soft drink.
To further immerse residents in the Scottish experience, a virtual tour of Scotland was arranged. The highlight of the day came in the afternoon, when kitchen staff member Clare organized a live bagpipe performance. The sound of the bagpipes echoed through the corridors, filling the home with an incredible atmosphere.
The celebration was filled with joy, laughter, and nostalgia. Resident Barbara shared how the event brought back fond memories of her husband, who was stationed in Scotland during the war. Another resident, Freda, was moved to tears by the beautiful sound of the bagpipes.
Ann went the extra mile by carefully setting the tables to create an authentic Scottish ambiance, adding to the immersive experience. Residents sang, danced, and enjoyed every moment, making it a memorable day for all.
The Burns Night celebration was a fantastic team effort that brought immense joy to the home, demonstrating the power of cultural traditions in bringing people together.
