Netherton Green Care Home Celebrates Chinese New Year with Heartwarming Outing
4 February 2025
Residents and staff at Netherton Green Care Home recently came together to celebrate Chinese New Year in a truly special way, ensuring one resident in particular had a memorable day.
With a resident who originates from China, the team wanted to make the celebration meaningful. Organizing a day out, they visited Merry Hill shopping centre, where they met up with Sarah, the activities coordinator from Ryland View Care Home, along with another resident. The group enjoyed coffee at Costa, where 97-year-old Freda had her first-ever cup of Costa coffee. She described it as the best coffee she had ever tasted and loved browsing the various shops, saying it made her day.
The celebrations continued with a visit to a Chinese restaurant, where they met resident Lai and her family. Lai, who doesn’t speak much English, was visibly moved when she saw her loved ones. Through translations, she expressed her immense happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate with her family. Her family was deeply touched by the kind gesture and shared their heartfelt thanks.
The event also provided a wonderful opportunity for staff to connect, with activities coordinators from different care homes exchanging ideas and experiences.
The celebration of Chinese New Year at Netherton Green Care Home was not just about marking a cultural tradition but about creating joy, fostering connections, and making unforgettable memories for residents and their families.
