Netherton Green Care Home Celebrates Dementia Action Week with Community, Creativity and Connection

Residents at Netherton Green Care Home enjoyed a meaningful and activity-filled Dementia Action Week, bringing together different generations, encouraging creativity, and promoting wellbeing through music, exercise, and social interaction.
One of the highlights of the week was a special visit from local pre-nursery children, who spent time interacting with residents throughout the home. The visit created a joyful atmosphere filled with smiles, laughter, and conversation as residents joined the children in play and activities. Intergenerational experiences like these are known to have a positive impact on emotional wellbeing, helping residents feel connected and engaged while creating valuable experiences for younger generations too.
One resident shared: “Seeing the little ones running around and chatting to us really brightened my day. They bring so much happiness into the home.”
Residents also spent time outdoors helping with preparations for the home’s entry into the Advinia in Bloom competition. Gardening activities gave residents the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, work together, and take pride in helping the home look its best. Staff noted how much residents enjoyed being involved and contributing their own ideas for the garden displays.
The week also included live entertainment from James Wythes, whose performance had residents singing along, clapping, and dancing together. Alongside the entertainment, residents took part in colouring sessions and interactive games using the home’s digital activity table, encouraging both creativity and cognitive stimulation.
To round off the week, residents joined the home’s popular armchair exercise group on Friday, supporting gentle movement, mobility, and physical wellbeing in a fun and inclusive way.
A staff member commented: “Dementia Action Week has been a lovely reminder of how important connection, laughter, and meaningful activities are for our residents. Seeing everyone smiling and joining in has been wonderful.”
The week was a fantastic success and reflected Netherton Green Care Home’s ongoing commitment to creating engaging, person-centred experiences that support residents’ wellbeing and quality of life every day.
