Netherton Green Care Home’s Newly Refurbished Residential Care Facility is Now Open
31 October 2024
In response to growing demand in the local community, Netherton Green Care Home has officially opened a new residential facility, expanding its capacity to offer specialized, high-quality care for the elderly. Known for its dedicated approach to elderly care, Netherton Green has primarily operated as a nursing care facility. However, with the opening of this new House, Windmill House, the home now offers residential care for those who may not require intensive nursing but benefit from a supportive, community-based setting.
With a maximum capacity of 30 beds in the new house, Windmill House currently has 10 operational beds to meet immediate needs, with plans to gradually open more in response to demand. This expansion allows Netherton Green to serve the wider community in ways that were previously unattainable. “We’ve always wanted to welcome more local residents in need of residential support, but due to space limitations, we’ve had to turn people away,” said the Care Home Manager. “Now, with the opening of the new facility, we’re ready to extend our services and make a positive impact on the lives of many more local residents.”
The care home has also welcomed ten new staff members to support the increased demand, while current employees have undergone additional training to ensure that residents receive personalized, top-quality care. Former bank contract employees have also been offered permanent positions, strengthening the continuity of care provided by a familiar team. In total, the home’s capacity has now increased from 30 to 40 residents, marking an important milestone in Netherton Green’s growth.
Windmill House is equipped with two show rooms, a spacious lounge, a dining area, a conservatory, an enclosed garden with patio doors, shower rooms, and bathrooms—all designed to provide residents with comfort, social opportunities, and a homely environment. Residents will also benefit from a dedicated activity coordinator who will organise 40 hours of engaging programming weekly, including outings and events. The activities will span across the two houses, and residents will have opportunities to socialise with others from different houses.
For one of the first residents to move from Netherton Green’s nursing dementia facility to Windmill House, the transition has been transformative. “For the first time, she has been able to make friends, engage in meaningful conversations, and enjoy a fulfilling social life with others,” noted a care staff member. This shift highlights the positive impact that residential care, as opposed to strictly nursing care, can have on residents’ emotional and social well-being.
Netherton Green Care Home is planning a launch event for Windmill House in November, expected to feature live music and community engagement. Details are still to be confirmed, but the home looks forward to welcoming local stakeholders, families, and staff to celebrate this new chapter.
