Netherton Green Resident Victoria Shares Her Gift for Poetry
15 July 2025
At Netherton Green Care Home, creativity continues to flourish—this time, through the heartfelt words of one of our cherished residents, Victoria.
Victoria, who is lovingly nursed in bed, has been writing poetry for many years. She draws inspiration from the beauty of nature, meaningful life experiences, and vivid memories from her childhood. Her poems are not only a reflection of her inner world but also a way of connecting deeply with others.
One team member shares, “Victoria and I have formed a special bond through her poetry. She often shares her stories with me in verse, and it’s truly moving to see how her words bring her joy and comfort. Even though she stays in bed, poetry allows her to explore, express, and inspire.”
Victoria was delighted to share one of her pieces with the rest of the home—a beautiful and evocative poem titled “Butterfly”:
BUTTERFLY
Fly by butterfly; ride the sunbeams to the sky.
Butterfly, flutter by to cabbage whites on fields
of green where cabbage bloom on breeze and
cream.
Flutter by, butterfly, to where your kith and
kin assemble—so many dots in rainbow
colours that only the purist of angels may
resemble.
Not long the meeting place remains as mates
are sought and found retained until the season
comes again and sunshine parts the showers
of rain.
Her words remind us of the quiet beauty that stillness can hold, and the way art can uplift and unite us—regardless of age or circumstance.
Victoria continues to write, and we are honoured to be part of her creative journey.
