Newcarron Court Care Home Celebrates Burns Night with Dance, Memories, and a Quiz
12 February 2025
Newcarron Court Care Home marked Burns Night with a lively and nostalgic celebration, bringing together residents and local talent for an afternoon of Scottish tradition. Senior pupil Anna Stoddart from Falkirk High School delighted everyone with a Highland dance to the skirl of the pipes, captivating the audience with her graceful performance.
Following the dance, Anna and Anne shared their cherished memories of The World Highland Dancing Championships, reflecting on how many traditions in the art form have remained unchanged over the years. Anne also fondly remembered attending the Cowal Highland Games, a highlight of her own Scottish heritage.
As the celebration continued, Margaret in Harris asked about Anna’s kilt, learning that it was the McKellar tartan, which sparked further discussion and reminiscence. Christian, too, shared his own memories of Highland dancing from his youth.
The fun didn’t stop there—residents Tony, Margaret, Betty, Anne, Christian, Ina, Monica, and John took part in a quick-fire quiz, testing their knowledge of Rabbie Burns. They recalled key facts, such as where the poet lived and the places he stayed in Falkirk, showcasing their connection to Scotland’s literary legend.
The afternoon left everyone feeling patriotic and full of Scottish pride, rounding off with a comforting plate of Stovies at dinner time, marking a perfect end to a Burns Night to remember.
