Oxford Manor Care Home Honours Veterans in Harwell Remembrance Parade

15 November 2023

In a poignant display of respect and remembrance, Oxford Manor Care Home proudly participated in the Harwell Remembrance Parade, underscoring their commitment to honouring the sacrifices of those who served in the military.

Amelia Crook, the Care Home’s Administrator, had the honour of laying a wreath at the cenotaph during the ceremony. Speaking about the experience, Crook expressed deep gratitude, saying, “It was a great honour and privilege for Oxford Manor Care Home to take part in the Harwell Remembrance Parade. It’s important to never forget the sacrifices of those who fought to defend our freedom and way of life.”

The significance of the event was not lost on the residents of Oxford Manor Care Home, many of whom have direct ties to the military. Rosemary Hutton, the Deputy Manager, highlighted the care home’s longstanding tradition of commemorating this solemn occasion. “Many of Oxford Manor’s residents are ex-military or have close family connections to the war, and we always commemorate this poignant occasion,” said Hutton.

In the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, Oxford Manor Care Home engaged in a meaningful activity, creating hundreds of poppies that adorned the care home, serving as both a visual tribute and a catalyst for reminiscing and sharing wartime memories among the residents. The activity not only paid homage to the past but also fostered a sense of connection and shared history among the residents.

The participation of Oxford Manor Care Home in the Harwell Remembrance Parade reflects a deep-seated commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices made by veterans are remembered and honoured by future generations. The care home continues to be a beacon of respect and gratitude, bridging the past and present through meaningful activities that commemorate the legacy of those who served.
