Oxford Manor Care Home Marks Dementia Action Week Through Reflection, Creativity and Connection
27 May 2026
Residents and families at Oxford Manor Care Home recently came together to mark Dementia Action Week with a series of thoughtful activities centred around reminiscence, creativity, and meaningful connection.
Throughout the week, the team created opportunities for residents to reflect, engage their senses, and share treasured memories in a warm and supportive environment.
One particularly meaningful activity saw residents create beautiful Seed Paper Forget Me Knots, symbolising remembrance, growth, and the importance of nurturing memories. The activity encouraged creativity and conversation while also providing sensory benefits through crafting and hands-on engagement.
The home also introduced a special Wishing Tree display featuring Forget Me Knots, where residents, relatives, and team members were invited to share personal thoughts, wishes, and cherished memories together. The display quickly became a touching focal point within the home, sparking heartfelt conversations and moments of reflection between residents and their loved ones.
Oxford Manor’s popular Baking Club also hosted a special afternoon dedicated to homemade scones. Residents enjoyed measuring ingredients, mixing, baking, and sharing the finished treats together over tea and conversation. Familiar routines such as baking can often provide comfort, confidence, and a sense of purpose for people living with dementia, while also encouraging social interaction and sensory stimulation through taste, smell, and touch.
The week highlighted the importance of meaningful activities in supporting emotional wellbeing and maintaining connection for those living with dementia. By focusing on familiar experiences, creativity, and shared moments, the team at Oxford Manor Care Home continues to create a nurturing environment where residents feel valued, supported, and empowered every day.
Dementia Action Week served as a wonderful reminder of the power of compassion, conversation, and community in helping residents continue to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
