Oxford Manor Care Home Welcomes Didcot Girls School Students for Inspiring Work Experience Week

Oxford Manor Care Home recently welcomed a group of Year 10 students from Didcot Girls School for a week of work experience, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable insight into life and careers within a care home environment.

Supported by Wellbeing Coordinator Kate and Customer Relationship Manager Philip, the students spent the week working closely with residents and team members across the home. Alongside supporting activities and wellbeing sessions, they also had the opportunity to spend time with nurses, carers, the Deputy Manager, and other departments to gain a broader understanding of both clinical and non-clinical career pathways within care.

Throughout the week, the students shared their ambitions and interests for the future, with career aspirations ranging from paediatrics, general practice, dentistry, and wider healthcare professions. For some, the experience also provided an opportunity to explore which area they may wish to pursue in the future.

The students quickly became a valued part of life at Oxford Manor, engaging wonderfully with residents and building meaningful connections throughout their placement.

One particularly special project during the week focused on the home’s sensory and edible garden. The students researched ideas and helped design raised beds aimed at creating a relaxing outdoor space residents can enjoy together. Residents were delighted to see the students return to help bring the plans to life, working side-by-side to plant herbs, flowers, and even strawberries in the sunshine.

The garden project created opportunities for conversation, teamwork, and shared experiences, while helping residents enjoy time outdoors in a calm and welcoming environment.
