7 May 2025
Oxford Manor Care Home marked the launch of its innovative new rehabilitation service with a lively and well-attended Open Day on 1st May 2025—welcoming healthcare professionals, residents, families, and local dignitaries for a day of celebration, discovery, and music-filled fun.
The event showcased Oxford Manor’s state-of-the-art therapy suite, purpose-built to support individuals recovering from illness, surgery, or hospital stays. The fully equipped rehabilitation space features parallel bars, a massage/therapy bed, and a multimedia exercise bike—which was demonstrated during the open day—giving visitors a real taste of the transformative therapies on offer.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Mark Sheriff, Councillor Denise McDonald, Councillor Axel McDonald, and Deputy Mayor Jim Loder, officially inaugurating the new service and praising its potential to make a meaningful difference in the community.
Healthcare professionals from across the sector, including representatives from Royal Berkshire Hospital, Oxford Brookes University, district nurses, and the Care Home Support Service, attended the event and explored the new facilities while meeting the expert team behind the service.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this new service, which is all about restoring independence, strength and confidence. We’re focused on person-centred care that meets every resident where they are on their recovery journey.”Residents enjoyed a range of afternoon activities including giant games like noughts and crosses, indoor bowling (with nurse Cecilia landing the first strike!), and nostalgic music and games in the lounge. The Piano Lounge came to life as local piano teacher David Evans performed classic tunes, followed by a performance from a local folk duo on fiddle and guitar. Their rendition of the Sailor’s Hornpipe had feet tapping and smiles all around. Residents also took a trip down memory lane, listening to 1950s and 60s records that brought back warm memories and sparked conversation.
“I really loved sharing what Oxford Manor means to me—it’s a place where I feel at home. And I do love having a cheeky laugh with our new manager!”
“It was such a fantastic event. I really enjoyed seeing the team come together.”
