Parklands Court Brings the Seaside Indoors for Under the Sea Day

Residents, relatives and colleagues at Parklands Court Care Home enjoyed a taste of the seaside as the home transformed into a tropical paradise for a special Under the Sea Day celebration.

Originally planned as an outdoor event to mark National Beach Day, the unpredictable weather meant the team had to make a last-minute change of plans. But a little rain wasn’t going to stop the fun, with the celebrations quickly moved indoors and the home decorated with an under-the-sea theme, complete with a tropical tiki bar.

The afternoon was made even sweeter with a visit from Raz’s ice cream truck, giving residents and colleagues the chance to enjoy a traditional ice cream van treat. For some residents, it brought back fond memories, with several commenting that they hadn’t enjoyed a “proper ice cream man ice cream” in a long time.

The kitchen team also prepared a delicious buffet for everyone to enjoy, while singer Kirsty provided live entertainment and soon had the room filled with music, singing and dancing.

Residents from other houses joined the celebrations, alongside relatives who came along to spend the afternoon singing and dancing with their loved ones.

Resident Linda praised the beautiful tropical set-up, saying she genuinely felt as though she was at the beach.

It was also a particularly special afternoon for Val, who usually prefers to remain in her bedroom during events. Val decided to join the celebrations and said she was glad she had come out because the afternoon was so lovely.

Meanwhile, Joyce N danced the afternoon away alongside fellow residents Joyce D and Brenda C, bringing plenty of energy to the celebrations.

Despite the British weather changing the original plans, the Parklands Court team made sure residents still had a memorable day filled with music, dancing, delicious food, ice cream and wonderful company.

The result was a fantastic afternoon that proved you don’t need sunshine – or even a beach – to enjoy a little seaside fun!
