Parklands Court Care Home Brings People Together for Dementia Action Week Coffee Morning

22 May 2026

Parklands Court Care Home recently hosted a heartwarming coffee morning as part of Dementia Action Week, bringing residents, relatives, and staff together for an afternoon focused on connection, conversation, and community support.

Held in the café area on Samuel House, the event created a relaxed and welcoming space where families could share experiences, socialise, and support one another. Relatives spoke openly with staff and other families about their loved ones’ dementia journeys, discussing the many different causes of dementia, including brain injuries and illness, while sharing personal stories and experiences.

More than anything, attendees valued the opportunity to simply spend time together. The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was filled with laughter and warmth, with many residents thoroughly enjoying the social aspect of the event. Maintenance team members Dave and Ryan proved especially popular with several of the ladies at the home, including Brenda, Rosemary, and Adelaide, who spent time laughing, joking, and playfully arguing over who would marry them — much to everyone’s amusement.

The event also encouraged some residents who do not usually engage in activities to join in, making it a particularly meaningful afternoon for both residents and staff. Families from different houses across the site had the opportunity to meet one another, helping to strengthen friendships and create a wider sense of community within the home.

Light music played softly in the background as guests enjoyed tea, coffee, and cake. Although family members kindly offered donations, the team explained that the focus of the event was simply about bringing people together, encouraging conversation, and creating joyful moments.

The coffee morning was a wonderful reminder of the positive impact social connection can have on wellbeing, helping to reduce isolation, lift spirits, and create meaningful moments for everyone involved.
