Parklands Court Care Home Hosts Week of Special Activities for Dementia Action Week
27 May 2025
Parklands Court Care Home proudly embraced Dementia Action Week with a series of enriching and meaningful activities designed to support and uplift residents living with dementia, while promoting understanding and awareness throughout the home.
Across the week, the team curated a diverse programme focused on physical wellbeing, self-esteem, and memory stimulation — all proven to offer positive cognitive and emotional benefits.
Days 1 & 2 welcomed Farzana from Gfitness, who led energising movement-to-music sessions. These engaging exercises helped improve memory, attention, and brain health, while also boosting heart health and mood. The sessions were not only fun but also fostered a sense of community and joy among residents.
Day 3 was all about pampering and self-esteem. Residents enjoyed a full pamper day with nail treatments from the team and fresh haircuts and colours from the wonderful hairdresser Julie. These uplifting experiences reminded residents of their individuality and beauty, boosting emotional wellbeing and creating an atmosphere filled with smiles and laughter.
Day 4 shifted focus to the past with sensory and reminiscence therapy. Using sensory toys, calming lights, and music, residents were gently guided through memories of their younger years, former jobs, and childhood experiences. These sessions proved to be deeply comforting, encouraging conversation, connection, and cognitive stimulation.
Manager and staff at Parklands Court emphasised the importance of activities like these in enhancing the quality of life for residents with dementia. By focusing on holistic care—mind, body, and spirit—the home continues to foster a nurturing, person-centred environment where everyone can thrive.
“Our goal this week was to bring joy, comfort, and connection,” said one team member. “The laughter, conversations, and even a few happy tears reminded us just how powerful these moments are.”
Parklands Court remains committed to supporting residents with dementia through thoughtful, evidence-based care — not just during Dementia Action Week, but every day.
