Parklands Court Care Home Welcomes Farm on Wheels for Day 1 of Care Home Open Week

Residents at Parklands Court Care Home enjoyed a wonderful start to Care Home Open Week as Stella and her popular Farm on Wheels returned for another memorable animal experience.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, residents gathered outside to enjoy the warm weather and spend time with a variety of friendly animals. Following the success of a previous visit featuring Racket the donkey, Stella returned with some new furry friends, including Honey the mummy goat and her playful kid, Ruben.

Residents were delighted to meet the animals, with many taking the opportunity to feed a lamb named Lamborghini, cuddle guinea pigs, stroke rabbits, and admire the adorable baby chicks. The visit created a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, encouraging residents to spend time outdoors, socialise with one another, and connect with the animals.

For many residents, the experience brought back fond memories of childhood, family life, and time spent around animals.

Resident Sheila was particularly pleased to meet Honey the goat, saying she was delighted because goats have always been one of her favourite animals. Rose couldn’t stop smiling as she watched the baby lambs, commenting on how beautiful they were.

The visit also helped residents overcome personal challenges. Irene, who has been afraid of rabbits since childhood, bravely decided to stroke one for the first time in many years and was delighted she had done so. Meanwhile, Valerie enjoyed holding a guinea pig and commented on how calm and relaxed it made her feel.

Animal-assisted activities are known to support wellbeing, reduce anxiety, encourage social interaction, and spark meaningful conversations. The afternoon was filled with smiles, laughter, and memorable moments, making it a fantastic way to launch Care Home Open Week.

Residents and staff alike agreed that the visit was another huge success and are already looking forward to welcoming Stella and her animals back again in the future.
